Report: IP Media Phones Enjoy Strong Growth in the 'Fourth Screen' Market If you find yourself a wanting slick, high-tech video phone in the office and home, you’re not alone. In fact, multimedia IP phones in the “fourth screen” devices market are poised to enjoy strong growth in the next few years – generating a market value above $5 billion by 2014. The latest home devices study from ABI Research (News - Alert) – “Connected Home Devices (Fourth Screen)” – reveals the device category that includes phones, digital photo frames and Internet appliances that enhance the experiences of consumers also promises new revenue streams for operators. “While the first media phone models only appeared late last year in the U.S., earlier in Asia, more than 30 million units will be shipped in 2014,” said ABI Research industry analyst Michael Inouye. “These devices, which feature video playback, Internet connectivity and some form of voice functionality, will be among the strongest performers among Fourth Screen products.” Such reports are good news for companies like IP phone maker Yealink, said April Huang, a spokeswoman with the Chinese company’s marketing department. The company’s desktop phones, which are equipped with the TI TITAN chipset and TI voice engine, offer high-definition voice, a broad range of voice codecs, security protection for privacy and rich features including BLF, XML-screen, PoE and PnP Auto provision. The phones are fully compatible with the SIP industry standard, and have broad interoperability with major IP-PBXs, IP multimedia subsystems, NGN softswitches and other third-party SIP products on the market. “Video phone is still in its early days,” Huang told TMCnet. “But its rich features and great advantages are already being seen by the market.” Marisa Torrieri is a TMCnet Editor.
